Victims of luxury condos linked to famous endorsers unite to complain

“Kant Kantathavorn” finds himself in trouble again as a group of victims who bought luxury condos due to “famous presenters” gathered to file complaints with the “Foundation for Justice Campaign” after their case stagnates.

On October 21, 2024, reporters reported that dozens of victims assembled at the Foundation for Justice Campaign, bringing various documents to complain to Mr. Ronnarong Kaewpet, the foundation’s president, and Vice President Lt. Rithapatsit Pattaririchaisit, seeking assistance in tracking their case. All victims purchased condos in Chiang Mai but claim they were defrauded by the project owner who rented out their purchased units to others, despite the titles and units being in their names.

Many famous celebrities were invited by the project owner to promote the condos, including Kant Kantathavorn and other well-known actors.

Ms. Narumon or Joy Simons, 42, a former TV actress, stated that they invested in luxury condos named “The New Concept” in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai, which launched 13 projects but completed only 2. Each project features 6-story buildings priced from 2.9 million baht per room based on size.

The project was heavily promoted across various media, showcasing its opulent launch event on January 26, 2019, which featured celebrities like Kant Kantathavorn, Dai, Nat, Tao, and Kim, creating an air of credibility. The project’s owner, a 50-year-old named Mr. Romayarawin, assured customers that purchasing with him would entail obtaining titles under their names.

He also claimed that for buyers who didn’t reside in their units, the project would arrange tenants, yielding income—one victim stated they received 100,000 baht a year for three years before payments ceased. That victim, now seeking to annul their contract and reclaim their rights, was shocked to find their unit in disrepair and occupied by other tenants. Other victims reported similar experiences, with some having purchased multiple units without receiving the promised rental income.

Over 100 victims collectively reported losses exceeding 300 million baht and approached the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in 2022, but after two years, there has been no progress in their case. They noted the swift resolution of cases involving The Icon Group and hope for similar attention to their situation.

Mr. Ronnarong, the foundation’s president, mentioned the involvement of a well-known presenter in their case, emphasizing that the celebrities’ association with the condo sales lent undeserved credibility to the venture. The DSI has recognized this as a special case since 2022, but the lack of progress has frustrated the victims.

The victims are concerned that external influences may be delaying their case and plan to unify for inquiries into the DSI regarding their case’s status.
