Village chief lures 11-year-old girl, leading to mother’s plea for help

A mother in Saraburi is seeking justice after her 11-year-old daughter was allegedly sexually assaulted by a local village chief. The mother, known as ‘Nan’ (pseudonym), reported that her daughter was lured into conversations on Facebook and assaulted on three occasions, leading to the child’s depression. Following a distress call to the Paweena Foundation on September 25, 2024, an investigation was launched by local police.

Nan stated that she works night shifts at a factory and her daughter is often home alone with her elderly grandfather. Upon returning home on September 10, 2024, she discovered her daughter in distress. The child revealed that the village chief had taken her to a rice field and assaulted her. After learning of the abuse, Nan took her daughter to the police station, where they reported the incidents and secured a medical examination for the child.

Nan expressed her devastation over her child’s trauma and emphasized the need for accountability, particularly as the abuser held a respected position in the community. She stated, “I can’t accept that someone in his position would harm a young child.” She sought the foundation’s assistance to ensure justice is served and to prevent further abuse.

On September 26, 2024, after the child’s forensic interview, police quickly obtained an arrest warrant for the village chief, Uthen (pseudonym), who was charged with multiple offenses including child sexual assault. However, initial attempts to arrest him were unsuccessful. He later surrendered to the authorities at the police station, where he was formally charged and detained without bail.

Recent updates reveal that Uthen has confessed to the allegations of sexual abuse. Under Thai law, he faces severe penalties ranging from four years to life imprisonment for these crimes against minors.
