Village head in Khlong Lan gives statement after 21-year-old rape claim

A village head in Khlong Lan district has given a statement to the police after a 21-year-old woman alleged she was raped for nearly a year. The accused has denied all charges.

The incident came to light when Sergeant Major Prajakrit Saitip, admin of the “Kamphaeng Phet Complaint Page,” assisted the victim in filing a police report. The victim claims she was raped by the village head’s assistant since July 2024, and was threatened with death if she spoke out, prompting her to flee to live with her mother in Bangkok.

The victim recounted that upon returning to live with her uncle, who was the village head at the time, she was assaulted by the accused during a trip to buy alcohol. He allegedly groped her and later raped her, threatening her to keep silent. This abuse happened repeatedly, particularly when she was menstruating, leading to significant trauma.

After her uncle’s death, the accused distanced himself until he was elected village head. The victim lived in fear for months before finally deciding to confide in her family in April 2024 and seeking help through social media and the police.

On October 23, 2024, the accused appeared at the police station to give his statement, confirming the victim had lived in his home but denying any wrongdoing. The police, led by Sergeant Major Saman Upatham, have started collecting evidence from both sides to proceed with legal action.

The district chief has authorized an investigation into the incident and a committee has been established to ensure fairness to both parties involved. They committed to addressing any wrongdoing identified through disciplinary actions, alongside the ongoing legal processes.
