On October 21, 2024, “Yee Tankhun” revealed a new Ponzi scheme known as “Carrot Share,” which shares similarities with the Forex 3D fraud. This scheme has reportedly targeted many victims, including several hundred Buddhist monks, primarily in northeastern Thailand.
Tankhun stated that he had received complaints from victims and brought them to file a report with the police last month. The scam involves a financial model based on dollar exchange rates, promising profits from investments. The operation is led by four key figures, identified only by initials: Mr. D, Dr. P, Mr. T, and Mr. C.
The perpetrators sought out victims not only among the general public but also specifically targeted monks through a prominent Buddhist university in the northeast. They organized training seminars for monks, during which they pushed them to invest by claiming that profits would support the Buddhist community, enhance temples, or serve as financial security for life after leaving the monkhood, with a single investment entry price of 300,000 baht.
Tankhun noted that these individuals often approached well-known social figures such as national politicians, showcasing videos of themselves dining with influential people and suggesting that these elite members had invested up to 50 million baht.
He expressed concern over the sensitive nature of the situation due to the involvement of monks, which could result in severe ecclesiastical penalties. As of now, hundreds of monks and laypeople have already fallen victim, resulting in estimated losses of around 100 million baht.
