Yom River continues to rise, Phrae prepares for flooding

In Phrae Province, preparations are underway for potential flooding as the Yom River has reached critical levels. Military personnel have been deployed to assist residents in elevating their belongings in anticipation of rising water.

As of September 24, at 10:00 AM, 60 soldiers from the 35th Military Circle, commanded by General Suchart Phumsuwan, are actively helping citizens in the Chatawan community and Rong Ki Pla village within Phrae municipality by lifting their possessions to safer areas.

The Yom River, measured at Y.20 in Ban Huay Sak, experienced overflow, peaking at 9.24 meters at 2:00 AM on September 24, with a flow rate of 936.40 cubic meters per second.

The volume of water is expected to reach Phrae city within 24 hours. The water level at Y1C in Ban Nam Khong is also rising steadily, recording 7.87 meters and a flow of 939.20 cubic meters per second at 10:00 AM, with the riverbanks able to withstand only up to 8.20 meters. Low-lying areas such as the Chatawan community, Ban Mai Huadong, and Rong Ki Pla are under special surveillance for potential flooding.

Meanwhile, the Phrae municipality has been using public announcement vehicles to warn residents to raise important belongings and ensure the safety of vulnerable groups. Many residents have moved their vehicles to higher ground, such as hills or old city walls, to avoid losses similar to those experienced on August 23, 2023.
