“Yom River” has overflowed and caused widespread flooding in residential areas. The Governor of Phrae Province has ordered preparations for a new surge of water coming from the north.
As of September 26, 2024, reports indicate that the water level in the Yom River continues to rise. At the Y.1C measurement point in Ban Nam Khoeng, Muang Phrae, the level reached 9.55 meters at 9:00 AM, with a flow rate of 1,211.50 cubic meters per second, while the riverbanks can only support up to 8.20 meters, indicating a growing risk of flooding.
Governor Chutidet Meejan has directed all sectors to prepare for a new wave of water flowing from the north, expected to peak in Muang Phrae around 9 PM on the same day. He has ordered the Phrae municipality to stack sandbags to prevent the flooding from reaching the economic zone and instructed the disaster prevention unit to check rescue personnel, boats, and pumps for assistance in the affected areas, particularly in the municipality and in the Pa Mat subdistrict, which may see floods affecting at least 11 villages.
Efforts are also underway to assist residents in the districts of Sung Men, Den Chai, and Wang Chin, which are downstream and likely to be affected. Relevant agencies, in collaboration with local officials, are preparing plans and equipment to provide advance assistance to the impacted population.
