One is afraid of it and the other finds them fascinating? the cat. The extremes are great when it comes to the pet we find the most. On the one hand, the cat is sometimes unpredictable, idiosyncratic and leading in many living rooms. On the other hand, what makes the cat fascinating is difficult to name for many people. However, at first sight there is little left of the wild cat, only you can see the typical things of a feline fine in the behavior. The white press is one of the oldest in breeding programs and is extremely popular to this day.
What makes the white press so popular?
It is difficult to describe what has made the white press so popular from the start of the breeding programs. On the one hand, the imposing of the classic color, which includes white, but that soft snow-white full coat seems like the icing on the cake.
For example, in the United States in the 1950s, Mrs. Prosé bred a white cat that looked perfect for the standard and had an extremely long coat. This male has searched for many offspring. Incidentally, it was also this lady who imported the white cat with blue eyes, one who was not deaf and did not produce any deaf offspring. The first American press came from this woman to the Netherlands and was the second in all of Europe. Partly because of this woman, the standard for the white press was greatly improved.
What should the white press look like?
Strictly speaking, a press that, not conforming to the so-called standard, is just sweet and fun. Only when we talk about the standard for the cat show, then the cat must meet a number of conditions. It is:
- Physique: Short, stocky build with short, wide and sturdy legs and pink feet.
- Tail: Short and full of fur.
- Head: a broad skull with a short wide nose with a deep stop and small, wide-set ears. The eyes are large and round.
- Coat color: bright white, without any markings (a kitten may have a small mark on top of the head, but it should disappear).
- Eye color: copper or deep orange or warm brown.
- Lips / nose color: pink.
- Ears: Small with white ear tufts.
The white press is separate from the shaded silver or chinchilla press. This one has green eyes, with black edges and silver dots at the end of the coat. Moreover, this press is somewhat smaller and less robust. In terms of character, they are slightly softer than the classic colors.
Deaf or not?
Many of the white cats with blue eyes, which many people like, are deaf. Sometimes these cats have one orange and one blue eye and then the cat can also be deaf in one ear. Yet there are more and more breeders who manage to breed out the abnormal gene. It is therefore advised not to let two white cats take care of a litter together, the chance of the deaf cat is greater. Since white is dominant, there is a good chance that white kittens will be born.
Grooming
Coat
Like all long-haired cats, white Persians also need to be combed almost daily. Not only the top coat, but go well through the coat with the special comb (also take care of the cat’s armpits). The best way to do this is to tackle tuft by tuft. If there are any clumps, you can remove them carefully and do not hurt the cat. In addition, the cat is more likely to stay with you.
If you are going to brush the adult cat for the first time, it will generally not appreciate it very much. But if you do it from the kitten, the cat has grown up with it and it is not a problem. Don’t make it too big a ritual, but put the cat casually on your lap and start gently combing it.
Other
Persian cat’s eyes can be a problem. With that short blunt short nose, the chance of tears near the eyes is greater. It is deep in color and if you don’t take it off daily it will leave a deep dark brown trail under the eyes next to the nose and can look very dirty. Make sure you take it away every time, because it leaves a dirty groove very quickly and the cat can rub its paws against the eyes and the paws also become dirty.
Furthermore, the cat must be able to scratch sufficiently ?? on the scratching post, scratching pad or tree. If this is the case, you don’t have to do anything with the nails. The cat keeps track of this itself. Moreover, the cat always tends to want / need to sharpen the nails and if there is no suitable material, they will look for it. Table legs, furniture upholstery ?? everything can then be used by the cat.
The tomcat (and sometimes older cats) can get a tomcat tail, especially the long coat does not look beautiful anymore and you can treat this with a special soap. The greasy layer has to be removed carefully with special shampoo or with a little washing-up liquid. Rinse well, wash again with regular cat shampoo and rinse well. Let it dry well (possibly put the hair dryer on it) and if you want the tail to be fluffy again, you can add some special powder.
The internal cat benefits from high-quality kibble (containing all nutrients) and no wet food needs to be added. Think of this as a treat (every once in a while). You have special food for the press and this has to do with the skin and coat, but is not necessary. If the cat doesn’t come out, get cat grass, because the hairball that the press will inevitably have every now and then has to come out anyway.
Character
Many people want the Persian cat not only because of its robust build and beautiful long coat, but also because of its character. The press is generally a relatively calm, collected and dignified cat. One who has the overview, looks dominant ?? and this can sometimes be, but not annoying.
This cat will not easily become the typical ?? lap dog ?? , but now and then comes very focused attention ?? and then shows how sweet he / she is. All in all, the press will not soon see you in the curtains, but that does not mean that they just need movement. A good scratching post, some toys and a healthy living environment (with a clean litter box) and you can go a long way with the press.
Finally
Everyone has his / her preference, taste is indisputable and that is why there are so many shades of color. There is a color for every long-haired cat lover.
